Fast charging is becoming a major feature in mobile, as folks really seem to like being able to add a lot of juice to their battery in not a lot of time. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge is one of the original fast charging technologies, and today Qualcomm introduced the third iteration of its tech.
Quick Charge 3.0 features what Qualcomm calls Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), which lets the device that you’re plugging in figure out what power level to request from its charger for optimum power efficiency. Qualcomm says that when you plug a Quick Charge 3.0-compatible phone into a matching charger, you can charge the device from 0 to 80 percent in 35 minutes.
Quick Charge 3.0 is forward and backward compatible with past versions of Quick Charge and supports USB Type-A, microUSB, USB Type-C, and proprietary connectors. The new Quick Charge tech will be available with the Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617, and 430. It’s expected to first appear on mobile devices in 2016.
