Apple releases iOS 9 GM, first iOS 9.1 beta [UPDATED]

UPDATE: The Next Web has discovered that the iOS 9.1 beta includes new emoji, including a burrito and a middle finger.

ORIGINAL: With iOS 9 and watchOS 2 slated to launch to the public on September 16, Apple has launched Golden Master (GM) versions of both updates for final developer testing.

iOS 9 GM and watchOS 2 GM are now available for download from Apple’s developer website. The iOS 9 GM is build 13A340, and the watchOS 2 GM features the same build number.

In addition to launching iOS 9 GM, Apple today released the first beta version of iOS 9.1. The update is build 13B5110e. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on exactly what’s included with iOS 9.1, so we’ll have to wait and see what kind of tweaks Apple is planning to include with its first major iOS 9 update.

iOS 9 includes new features like the Proactive Assistant for predicting apps and contacts that you’ll want at any given time, a refreshed multitasking menu, a new News app, a refreshed Notes app, and some iPad-specific goodies like split-screen apps. If you’re not running the iOS 9 beta, fret not, because you’ve only got one more week before you’ll be able to try these new features for yourself.
