After countless leaks and rumors, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is finally here.
Samsung today took the wraps off of the Galaxy Note 5, its new flagship Android smartphone. As expected, the Note 5 has adopted the design of the Galaxy S6, offering a metal frame sandwiched between two slabs of glass. It’s definitely a departure from recent Note models, which have had plastic backsides with faux stitching.
In terms of specs, the Note 5 has a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display — the same size and resolution as last year — as well as an octa-core Exynots 7420 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 32/64GB of storage. One thing that the Note 5 doesn’t have is a microSD slot, which is a first for the Note series of phones, so you’ll have to be sure that the amount of built-in storage that you get will suffice since you won’t be adding any later on.
Also included with the Note 5 is a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and an f/1.9 aperture, as well as a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with the same f/1.9 aperture. There’s a 3000mAh battery powering this big ol’ slab of an Android phone, and when it comes time to juice that battery back up, you’ll be able to do so with Fast Charging or with a wireless charger. Rounding out the Note 5’s spec list is 4G LTE connectivity, NFC, Android 5.1, and Samsung’s custom TouchWiz user interface.
The second big device unveiled today is the Galaxy S6 edge+, which is basically a larger version of the Galaxy S6 edge that debuted earlier this year. The S6 edge+ has the same dual curved edge display as the regular S6 edge, it’s just been bumped up from 5.1 inches to 5.7.
The rest of the Galaxy S6 edge+’s spec list is similar to the Galaxy Note 5’s. The S6 edge+ has 16-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, 4GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, Fast Charging, wireless charging, NFC, and a 3000mAh battery.
Both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ will launch in the US on August 21, and pre-orders will begin today, August 13, at 3:00 pm ET. Both phones will be available on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon. You’ll be able to get the Note 5 in Black Sapphire and White Pearl, while the GS6 edge+ will don Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum duds.
