Remember Nextbit? The company with former employees of Google’s Android team and HTC was previously behind a service that aimed to help you sync your apps and data across Android devices, but now Nextbit is just going to make an Android phone of its own.
Nextbit has announced that it’s going to launch a new Android smartphone on September 1. Few details about the device are known, but CEO Tom Moss describes it as “friggin’ awesome.”
Other details that Nextbit dropped to CNET include the claim that the new phone “will perform better over time and function at a higher liver” thanks to a software enhancement that they’ve made to Android. Mike Chan, Nextbit CTO, also said that the phone will use the cloud to offer more storage.
Nextbit CEO Tom Moss and CTO Mike Chan both spent time working on Android at Google, and Chief Product Officer Scott Croyle spent time as HTC’s SVP of Deisgn and User Experience, helping to launch phones like the EVO, One M7, and One M8. With all of that experience, it’s not hard to see why there’s excitement surrounding Nextbit and it’s upcoming Android phone. The company will have to work to get its name out to the public, but it’s likely got quite a few phone addicts circling Sept. 1 on their calendars.
