Last month we met the Turing Phone, a new Android device whose claim to fame is being unbreakable, both in terms of being unhackable and made of a material called “liquidmorphium” that’s reportedly tougher than titanium. If that’s the combo that you want in your next Android phone, you can now reserve a Turing Phone of your very own.
The Turing Phone website will now let you reserve a Turing Phone in either Beowulf (a black and purple model), Pharaoh (a blue and red combo), or Cardinal (a red and white device). Once you choose your color, you select how much storage you’d like. Your options include 16GB for $610, 64GB for $740, or 128GB for $870. Keep in mind that these are reservations, not pre-orders, so you won’t be ponying up any money once you’re done filling out your contact info.
In exchange for all of those dollars, you’ll get a device running Android 5.1 beneath a custom UI called the “Turing Æmæth UI.” The Turing Phone’s also got a Gorilla Glass 4-covered 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display and 8-megapixel camera on its face, a 13-megapixel shooter around back, a “Wallaby Magstream” magnetic charging area, and a fingerprint sensor.
Inside the IPx8 waterproof body lives a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, a non-removable 3000Ah battery, NFC, LTE connectivity, and a host of other radios and sensors.
The Turing Phone’s got an industrial look that’s a bit different than most other flagship phones that we’re seeing lately, which typically have lots of curves and smooth edges. Its spec list isn’t quite as high-end as some similarly-priced handsets, but it’s not exactly poorly-equipped, either. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen exactly when we’ll be able to see how the Turing Phone performs for ourselves, because there’s no word on when it might actually begin shipping to consumers.
What do you think of the Turing Phone? Are you going to reserve one?
