Microdia debuts 512GB microSD card that will launch in July

Earlier this year, SanDisk took the wraps off of a 200GB microSD card, which was the biggest memory card of its type that we’d seen to date. It’s not the biggest anymore, though, because a card with more than twice its capacity has been revealed.

California-based company Microdia has introduced a 512GB microSD card at Computex in Taiwan. Yep, it’s a whopping 512GB, making it the largest microSD card around. The Microdia Xtra Elite offers data transfer rates of up to 300MB per second, and it uses the SD 4.0 standard.

By now you’re probably wondering how much a microSD card of this size will cost you? Well, as you can probably imagine, it’s not cheap. Microdia says that its 512GB microSD card will launch in July at around $1,000, though the company notes that that’s not the final price.

Technology is always getting better and parts are getting smaller, and so it was only a matter of time before we saw a 512GB microSD card. Heck, the microSDXC standard supports cards up to 2TB in size, and I’ve no doubt that we could end up seeing cards that large in the future. That said, seeing a 512GB microSD card for $1,000 still gives a bit of sticker shock.
