Alongside its bevy of Android mobile hardware, ASUS today took the wraps off of a new Android Wear device, the ZenWatch 2.
The follow-up to 2014’s ZenWatch, the ZenWatch 2 offers a slightly-refreshed design and two sizes for buyers to choose from. The small of the two is 45 x 37mm in size and uses 18mm straps, while the larger is 49 x 41mm and uses 22mm straps. Speaking of straps, ASUS plans to offer several different options for attaching the ZenWatch 2 to your wrist, including ones made of rubber, leather, and stainless steel. And in case that’s not enough customization, the ZenWatch 2 will be available in Silver, Gunmetal, and Rose Gold stainless steel cases.
Spec-wise, the ZenWatch 2 offers an AMOLED display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3. The device offers IP67 water resistance and is powered by a Qualcomm processor. And on the software side, ASUS says the ZenWatch 2 is running the latest version of Android Wear along with several custom apps, such as a Remote Camera tool and a new Wellness app for tracking your activity.
While several Android Wear devices offer different case and strap options, we haven’t seen many that are available in different sizes like the Apple Watch. By offering the ZenWatch 2 in two different sizes, ASUS is making the device more attractive to folks with smaller wrists that don’t want a big ol’ screen that dominates their arm.
ASUS says that the ZenWatch 2 will arrive in Q3 2015. What do you think of ASUS’s latest Android Wear effort?
