We already know that the OnePlus 2 is slated to land in the third quarter and that it’ll feature the same invite system that the OnePlus One launched with. There haven’t been many details of the phone itself revealed to date, but OnePlus CEO Pete Lau appears to have changed that.
In a question on his official Weibo account, Lau asked his followers how much they think the OnePlus 2 should cost if it comes equipped with a Snapdragon 810 processor. Sounds like it could be a hint to me. Later on, Lau floating a price of 2499.99 yuan, which works out to be around $403 USD. That’d be a bit pricier than the OnePlus One, which launched at $299/$349 for the 16GB/64GB models.
Despite having a low price compared to most other smartphones on the market, the OnePlus One was a well-specced phone when it launched. I’m sure that OnePlus is aiming to make the OnePlus 2 a well-specced device at its launch, too, and price it low so that it makes thin margins on it. By the time that the device is introduce in the latter half of the year, OnePlus may be able to get the Snapdragon 810 into its device at a cheaper price than it’s available for now, especially since Qualcomm and other major device makers will likely be turning their focus to the Snapdragon 820.
