Xiaomi Mi 4i offers 5-inch 1080p display, 13-megapixel camera, Android 5.0 for $205

Today Xiaomi held an event in India to reveal exactly what the “i” was that it referred to in a teaser earlier this month.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i is the newest Android smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer. It boasts a 5-inch 1920x1080 fully-laminated display with Corning OGS glass and a 5-megapixel camera on its face, as well as a 13-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture and two-tone flash on its rear. Packed inside the 7.8mm-thick unibody polycarbonate shell is a 1.7GHz octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 4G LTE, dual SIM support, and a 3120mAh battery.

On the software side, the Mi 4i is running Android 5.0.2 beneath Xiaomi’s custom MIUI 6 user interface.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i will launch on Flipkart in India on April 30 at 2:00 pm local time, but you can register to buy one right now. Pricing will be set at Rs. 12,999, which works out to $205 USD. Xiaomi plans to release the Mi 4i in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia in May.

Xiaomi has been blowing up lately, getting big sales in China and becoming a major player in the Android world. The Mi4i is notable because its Xiaomi’s first smartphone to debut outside of China, and on paper it sounds like a pretty impressive handset, especially for just $205. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see it launch outside of Asia, but at least the rest of us can ogle it from afar.
