Today Microsoft announced the results of its fiscal Q3 2015, which is the three-month period that ended on March 31.
There are a lot of details regarding Windows, Xbox, and Office in Microsoft’s announcement, but what we’re really concerned with here is Lumia. Microsoft says that it sold 8.6 million Lumia-branded Windows Phone models during the period. That’s a bit of a drop from from the 10.5 million Lumias that Microsoft sold in Q2 2015, but it’s 18 percent growth from the year-ago quarter, so there is that. Microsoft’s Phone Hardware revenue for Q3 2015 finished at $1.4 billion.
Microsoft also reports that its Surface revenue finished at $713 million, an increase of 44 percent year-over-year. The folks in Redmond attribute that growth to Surface Pro 3 sales.
So there’s Microsoft’s notable Lumia and Surface news for the quarter. The folks in Redmond appear to have had a decent little quarter, and with Microsoft working to grow Windows Phone’s market share, I’m sure that it’s happy with the 18 percent YOY sales growth that it saw in the quarter.
