Sony Xperia Z4 hardware shown off in new photo leak

Much of the focus in the Android world has been on new flagships from HTC, LG, and Samsung, but today Sony is joining in on the conversation.

Several images that claim to show the Sony Xperia Z4 have found their way online. Posted by Vietnamese site Sony Fan, the photos show a black Sony-branded phone that looks similar to the Xperia Z3, but with a few notable changes. For example, the microUSB port on the Z4 is located on the bottom of the phone, while on the Z3 it was on the left side of the device. This Xperia Z4 also has slits at the very top and bottom of its face for its speaker and earpiece. On the Z3, they were closer to the device’s screen.

Today’s leak also includes some purported spec details for the Xperia Z4. We’re told that Sony’s next flagship smartphone will feature a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3400mAh battery, and a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, which is the same resolution as the Z3. The Xperia Z4 is said to come preloaded with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

The device in these images doesn’t look terribly different from the Xperia Z3, but that aligns with Sony’s strategy in recent years of taking the design of its previous flagship and making small tweaks to improve upon it for the next version. That’s not necessarily a bad thing since the Xperia Z3 is a good-looking phone, but it may not do much to help Sony improve its mobile business, which hasn’t exactly been on fire lately. This is just a leak, though, so we’ll have to withhold judgment until the Z4 is officially revealed.
