The Pebble smartwatch only officially supports two OSes: Android and iOS. That’s still the case today, but if you’re up for doing a little work, you can now get Pebble working with a Windows Phone device as well.
The folks at Windows Central have gotten hold of a Pebble Connect app that was built by Microsoft to show Pebble that the smartwatch can work with Windows Phone. While the app is not available to the public, a special Pebble Connect APPX file has been made available for just 48 hours. After that time is up, well, we’ll just have to see what happens.
Anyway, if you want to give Pebble Connect a go, you’ll need to Developer Unlock your Windows Phone device. You can then use the Windows Phone SDK to sideload the app onto your phone. Once everything is up and running, you’ll be able to get notifications from any app that you choose from your Windows Phone to your Pebble. It’s worth noting that you’ll only be able to get notifications on your Pebble. You Windows Phone folk won’t be able to install Pebble apps, install new watch faces, or control music with the smartwatch.
Obviously this Pebble Connect app isn’t ideal for Windows Phone users since it doesn’t offer the same functionality that Android and iOS users get. It’s better than nothing, though, especially if you’ve been jonesing to get a smartwatch but don’t care for the Microsoft Band. There’s no word on when or if we’ll ever see official Windows Phone support on the Pebble, so if you’ve ever been interested in becoming a Pebbler, now’s the time to do it.
