Verizon activation and upgrade fee increases coming February 5

If you’re a current Verizon customer or are thinking about switching to Big Red in the near future, you’ll want to be aware of the carrier’s upcoming fee changes.

Verizon will increase its activation and upgrade fees on February 5. On that date, Verizon’s activation fee will grow from $35 to $40, while the upgrade fee will jump from $30 to $40. “These fees are not unique to Verizon and help offset costs associated with upgrades, activations, and other operational costs,” a Verizon spokesman told Phone Scoop.

Activation and upgrade fees are enforced by many carriers, and while it’s certainly no fun to see an extra $30 or $40 tacked onto your bill you you get a new phone, it’s something that most phone buyers have to face. The good news is that at least we’ve gotten word of Verizon’s fee changes a little more than a week before they go into effect, so if you were thinking about getting a new Verizon phone soon, you can do so before the changes roll out.
