Samsung is no stranger to fingerprint scanners, having used them on devices like the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S5 mini, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Note Edge. However, some users have reported that the readers on those devices didn’t work consistently. A new rumor claims that Samsung has recognized this and will address it in its next flagship.
SamMobile claims to have heard from a “highly-credible source” that Samsung will use a touch-based fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S6 rather than the swipe-based scanner in its previous devices. This new fingerprint sensor will allegedly work similar to the one used by Apple on the iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus, letting you register your entire fingerprint and simply place your finger on the sensor to have it read. Samsung is also reportedly planning to use a home button that's larger than those on the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 in order to offer an improved fingerprint sensor experience.
The fingerprint sensor in the Galaxy S6 will allegedly offer features similar to those found in past devices. That includes unlocking your phone or tablet, signing in to websites, entering Private Mode, paying with PayPal, and more.
Fingerprint sensors are a nice addition to the devices that feature them, giving users a way to keep their phone secure that can also be quicker to unlock than a PIN code and doesn’t require you to remember a code. It also eliminates the need for you to remember and enter passwords for things like logging in to sites. As I mentioned before, Samsung’s fingerprint scanner on devices like the Galaxy S5 aren’t exactly known for working smoothly every single time, so it’s exciting to hear that Sammy may have an improved version in the works for the Galaxy S6.
