There are already several different mobile payment options available to consumers, including Apple Pay, Google Wallet and Softcard. However, a new rumor suggests that Samsung thinks that we could use one more.
Sources speaking to Re/code claim that Samsung is currently in talks with LoopPay to create a new mobile payment service. It’s not yet clear if a deal between the two companies will be reached, but it’s said that Samsung has created a prototype of the service on one of its phones.
Details on Samsung’s possible payment service are still light, but it’s suggested that it would use the same fingerprint sensor tech that’s present in devices like the Galaxy S5. LoopPay’s current offering lets users wirelessly send the information from their debit or credit cards to a terminal.
Mobile payments appear to be one of the next big battlegrounds in wireless tech as manufacturers scramble to replace your physical wallet with their service. We’ve already got offerings from Google and Apple, and so it’s no surprise to hear that Samsung — one of the biggest forces in mobile right now — is thinking about a mobile payment service of its own.
