Google app for iOS updated with Material Design, new features

Google’s been pretty busy updating its core Android apps with Material Design makeovers lately, but today it’s showing one of its major iOS apps some love.

The Google app for iOS is being updated to version 5.0.0 today that’s got quite a few changes and new features. Those include a Material Design refresh, an updated app icon, bigger photos in image search, a Recents button to view your recently-visited pages and more. Here’s Google’s changelog for the update:

Introducing the new Google app

Completely rebuilt to bring you the best of Google:

  • Recents — see & return to your recently visited pages
  • Google button — start a new search with just one tap
  • Google Maps — explore interactive maps, nearby places & Street View right inside the app (for iPhone)

New look and feel:

  • Beautiful new Material Design animations
  • Bigger photos in image search
  • Looks great on the new iPhone 6 & 6 Plus

This is a pretty significant update for Google’s main search app on iOS, and it’s great to see Google continue to bring its Material Design to iOS and bring some Android 5.0 Lollipop functionality to Apple’s platform as well.
