Blackphone update to bring privacy-centric app store and Silent Space

Blackphone may be planning a new tablet, but that doesn’t mean that the company is done with its first security-focused device.

Blackphone today announced a new update to its Android-based PrivatOS that’ll launch in early 2015 that’ll include two major new features. The first is the Blackphone App Store, an application marketplace that’ll feature “a selection of carefully selected and vetted apps” that’ll help users continue to use their phone as they please while remaining completely private and secure.

The other new feature coming to Blackphone in early 2015 is Silent Space. The addition will let users create separate “spaces” for apps, data and accounts that can be used to separate work and personal information. The apps will be totally private and self-contained on the device.

With all of the news of hacks of major entertainment companies, data breaches, leaks and more lately, privacy and security have been a hot topic with the public. The Blackphone capitalizes on this, and the addition of the Blackphone App Store and Silent Space features could make the device even more attractive to users with a desire for privacy by letting them use their phone for more parts of their lives while keeping everything secure.

Do you own a Blackphone? If not, has the announcement of these new features gotten you interested in the device?
