Last month, OnePlus responded to the news that Cyanogen Inc. had struck an exclusivity deal to power Micromax’s Yu smartphones in India. OnePlus said that as a result of the deal, the OnePlus One would run OnePlus’s custom version of Android in India rather than CyanogenMod like it does in the rest of the world. Now Cyanogen has taken to its own blog to set the record straight.
On its official blog, Cyanogen Inc. says that the OnePlus One will continue to get over the air updates all over the globe, “including global devices for our users in India.” Cyanogen goes on to say that its deal with Micromax will allow it to bring quality experiences to its Indian users and that it’ll support its users wherever CyanogenMod is distributed.
Cyanogen Inc.’s announcement is certainly good news for Indian consumers that are interested in the OnePlus One. While I’m sure that there are still folks that’d like to see what OnePlus’s take on Android 5.0 looks like, most OnePlus One buyers in India would probably prefer to run the software that the One has across the rest of the globe.
