E-Label Act, which lets regulatory labels be shown electronically, signed by Obama

There are an awful lot of beautiful pieces of mobile hardware out there, but it can be tough to admire a device once you catch sight of all of those regulatory logos tattooed on a product’s backside. Thankfully, at least some of those logos may soon disappear.

President Obama today signed the E-Label Act, which lets device makers begin labeling their products electronically instead of slapping the labels directly on the hardware itself. The bill had gotten heavy support before being signed by Obama, as the House, Senate and industry groups all backed it in the past.

Not only will this change let attractive hardware designs shine a bit more because they’ll have fewer regulatory tattoos, but I’m sure wearable makers will appreciate having fewer icons to squeeze onto their tiny devices. Of course, this law only applies to U.S. regulatory labels, but it’s certainly a start to eliminating all of those tiny logos from our wireless devices.
