Motorola Keylink launches for $24.99, will locate your keys and unlock your phone

After teasing the Keylink back in September, Motorola today officially announced its small item tracker.

The Motorola Keylink is a device that you attach to a keychain or similar object that you never want to leave behind. You can then connect the Keylink to your Android or iOS device using the Motorola Connect app from Google Play and the App Store.

Once connected, you’ll be able to use the Keylink to make your lost phone ring from up to 100 feet away. You’ll also have the option to use the Motorola Connect to make your Keylink ring. Additionally, folks with a phone running Android 5.0 Lollipop will be able to use the Keylink to keep their device unlocked when your keys are nearby.

The Motorola Keylink is available from Motorola and T-Mobile starting today at a price of $24.99. The device’s battery is slated to last “upwards of a year,” and when it dies, you can replace it with a coin cell battery that can be found at drug and convenience stores. Motorola also says that the device is “splash-proof.”

We’ve seen a lot of key trackers come to market lately, including Nokia’s Treasure Tracker. While the Keylink offers support for multiple platforms and can locate your keys and your phone, the added functionality of keeping nearby Android 5.0 phones unlocked is a nice added feature that could make it more appealing to Android users than other tracking devices.

What do you think of the Motorola Keylink? Are you thinking about picking one up?
