Apple Watch rumored to launch in 'spring' 2015 as details of its retail strategy leak

When Apple officially unveiled the Apple Watch in early September, it said that the wearable would launch in “early 2015.” That’s a pretty large window of time, and unfortunately for us, it hasn’t gotten any smaller since. Thankfully, a new leak may have shrunken the Apple Watch release window ever so slightly.

Angela Ahrendts, Apple’s SVP of Retail and Online Stores, recently shared video message with Apple retail employees that reportedly revealed that the Apple Watch will launch in the spring. According to a transcript shared by 9to5Mac, Ahrendts said “We’re going into the holidays, we’ll go into Chinese New Year, and then we’ve got a new watch launch coming in the spring.”

Spring starts on March 20 and ends on June 21 in 2015. Obviously that’s still a fairly wide open window of time, but it suggests that the Apple Watch won’t be released in January, February or early March, which does narrow down Apple’s “early 2015” window a bit.

This leaked report also includes some details on how Apple might sell its smartwatch. It’s said that Apple Store employees will be trained on helping customers try on the Apple Watch and find a band that fits.

The Apple Watch is the Cupertino firm’s attempt at breaking into the wearables market, which is starting to gain traction with mainstream consumers. The Apple Watch will be available in two sizes and several versions — including a gold Apple Watch Edition model — and it’ll run apps, show notifications and track your fitness. You know, smartwatch things. Both the iPhone and Apple are major players in the mobile space, and so it’ll be interesting to see if the Cupertino firm’s presence and its retail strategy can help the smartwatch market grow even stronger.
