Remember when the HTC Nexus 9 appeared in the FCC over the weekend? It was nice to get a few extra details about the device, but unfortunately for us, there weren’t any images or sketches of the tablet included in the filing. The good news for those of us hungry for a new Nexus is that a new leak that gives us our first look at the Nexus 9 came just two days later.
Twitter user @upleaks, responsible for the HTC Desire Eye leak from last week, has posted an image of what may be the backside of the HTC Nexus 9. The shape is more square than the Nexus 7 and it’s rectangular frame, and the body looks a lot like the Nexus 5, sporting a matte black plastic construction with a “Nexus” imprint and a camera in its upper left corner. We can also see an HTC logo at the bottom of its body.
The shape and logo placement of the HTC Nexus 9 shown in today’s leak matches up with the render that we saw way back in June. Unfortunately for metal fans, the Nexus 9 appears to be made of matte plastic and not aluminum like that old leak suggested it may be. The Nexus line of hardware has been mostly plastic to date, though, so it looks like Google is just sticking to what’s worked so far.
The Nexus 9 is rumored to feature an 8.9-inch high-res display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of storage. It’s been quite a while since HTC was involved in the Nexus program, so it’s exciting to hear that Peter Chou and Co. are collaborating with Google on another device, especially one that’s a a size in-between the 7-inch and 10-inch Nexus tablets of the past.
What do you think of this HTC Nexus 9? Will you be happy with this design if it turns out to be legit?
