T-Mobile Personal CellSpot now available, Gogo in-flight texting launching today as well

After revealing its Wi-Fi Unleashed initiative last week, T-Mobile today began rolling out two of the effort’s main draws.

The Personal CellSpot is now available for purchase from T-Mobile. The ASUS-made router includes 802.11ac dual-band support and prioritizes T-Mobile voice usage over other Internet traffic to help give you quality phone calls over Wi-Fi. T-Mobile Simple Choice customers can get a CellSpot after paying a $25 refundable deposit, while prepaid users can get a unit for $99.

T-Mobile is also launching its partnership with Gogo to offer free in-flight texting and Visual Voicemail access to its customers. To use the service, you’ll need to have made at least one Wi-Fi call with your device and also have a compatible phone, which include the Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Avant, HTC One (M7), HTC One (M8), LG G3, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi Unleashed effort is aimed at helping its customers to get better voice and SMS connectivity using Wi-Fi. The Personal CellSpot looks like a great deal for anyone that’s eligible to buy it, as it’s a pretty nice ASUS router that can also improve your in-home connectivity. And hey, who wouldn’t like to stay connected with text messages while in the air? No one, that’s who.

Are you planning on picking up a Personal CellSpot?
