As tablets continue to get more powerful and gain access to more useful apps, folks are increasingly relying leaving their laptops behind and using tablets for their productivity needs. Today Microsoft announced that it’s going to aid in that movement with a new keyboard accessory.
The Universal Mobile Keyboard features a chiclet-stylus keyboard and a protective cover. Once you open the cover, the keyboard turns on and connects to your smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth. Closing the cover will turn the keyboard off. Microsoft’s accessory also has a detachable stand that allows you to position your device as you see fit.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the Universal Mobile Keyboard is that “Universal” part. Microsoft says that the add-on works with iOS, Android and Windows devices. It even includes an OS switch that lets you easily adapt your keyboard for whatever operating system that you’re currently using.
Microsoft’s Universal Mobile Keyboard will launch in October with a retail price of $79.95. That seems like a pretty reasonable price tag, especially considering that you can use the keyboard with all of smartphones and tablets that run Android, iOS or Windows.
How many of you have a physical keyboard that you use with a smartphone or tablet?
