Amazon officially introduced the Fire phone in mid-July, bringing its first smartphone to market in a partnership with AT&T. We haven’t heard much about the device since then, but if a new report is to be believed, Amazon’s Fire isn’t exactly raging.
The Guardian recently collected data from ad network Chitika and research firm comScore to estimate how many Amazon Fire phones have been sold to date. After crunching numbers related to ad views and the number of smartphones in use in the U.S. from the end of June through mid-August, it’s estimated that Amazon has sold no more than 35,000 Fire phones.
Since the Amazon Fire is exclusive to a single carrier (AT&T) in a single country (U.S.), it’s not shocking to learn that the phone isn’t exactly setting the world ablaze. That’s especially true when you remember that the Fire is priced similarly to the iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S5 and other flagship phones.
That said, this sales estimate is pretty low. The Fire phone was given a prime home on Amazon’s front page for quite some time, but it seems that not even that could help produce a respectable sales figure.
As for the Fire phone’s future, well, it’s not exactly bright. I could see Amazon taking its focus off of the Fire and perhaps looking forward to improving the second model.
Have you or anyone you know bought an Amazon Fire?
