How would you change the OnePlus One?

It's hard to believe that the OnePlus One was unveiled at the end of April. We're very nearly all the way through August at this point, and the company of the phone that was supposed to be the darling of the mobile market has managed to make sure the device stays in the limelight, at least a little bit, all these months later. Unfortunately, not all of that news has been good, but hey, at least it's still in the news.

In fact, most recently the company's latest marketing stunt didn't carry over well at all through the Internet's tunnels. They would eventually pull it, but as you can imagine the "damage" had already been done. Though, it's questionable it will do anything to actually impede the adoption of the device. The OnePlus One is a carrier-free, relatively cheap handset that's caught the smartphone-loving public's attention, thanks to those aforementioned details, and plenty of specifications to shake a stick at.

There's no doubt that the OnePlus One is a capable handset, and it should very well be getting the attention it rightly warrants. Sure, I'd be the first to tell you that things haven't been handled all that well with the device's launch, and I mean right from the beginning, but that isn't the device's fault.

I've been seeing more people on Twitter say they've got their hands on the OnePlus One now, so I wanted to reach out, to see what you think about the handset, and to see what you'd change about it -- if anything at all.

For me, I haven't had a chance to check it out in person quite yet, so I can't say anything about the hardware, or anything I'd change about it directly. (I have heard good things, though.). Though, for the record, I'd shrink that display to something, just about anything, under 5.5-inches, though. So, there's that.

Actually, the thing I'd change about the OnePlus One is its marketing, and even release in general. I can imagine that the invite-only system, both from friends of those who have picked up the device and from the company directly, seemed like a good idea, if only to raise word-of-mouth about the device. However, it has always just looked like a blatant sign that the manufacturing of the device has never been right where they wanted it to be for wide distribution. And they obviously wanted wide distribution, thanks to that heavy-handed marketing that came before the device's unveiling.

The way to get a OnePlus One has been all over the place, including a "Blizzard of Invites" not too long ago. Before that, though, OnePlus One wanted you to smash your phone to get a new device from them for a dollar. Thankfully just about everyone out there said you should donate your device instead of smash it, but I have no doubts that OnePlus managed to get plenty of applicants for the scheme.

And right now, you can have a chance to pick up a OnePlus One if you share your "summer shots." If I go to the website, I still can't just go buy one. I can find the handset through third-party retailers, but they're still offering the device for a premium price, so that's a no-go.

But, what would you change about the OnePlus One? Let me know!
