It was just a little over a month ago that Verizon flipped the 4G LTE switch on its prepaid plans, allowing customers on its Allset Plans to access its LTE network. Now it looks like Verizon MVNOs may soon get the same treatment.
A new report from FierceWireless claims that Verizon may be getting ready to allow its mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) to use its LTE network. Sources say that Verizon MVNOs like Page Plus Cellular and Selectel Wireless will be able to hop on to Verizon’s LTE service “soon,” with a launch potentially happening in the third quarter.
Obviously it’s kind of a bummer that some wireless users are stuck on a 3G CDMA network in mid-2014, especially as carriers like Sprint and T-Mobile open their 4G coverage to their MVNOs. That’s why it’s good to hear that Verizon may soon allow its own MVNOs onto its LTE network. After all, Verizon often touts its coverage as one of its strengths, and its own prepaid users have LTE access now as well.
