Late last week, an image popped up that claimed to be a “faithful reproduction” of HTC’s upcoming Android Wear smartwatch. Now it’s been discovered that HTC may have accidentally shown off the real deal even earlier than that.
On July 9, HTC posted a video titled “HTC Design - Behind the Scenes” to its official YouTube channel. The clip is short, only one minute and four seconds in length, but it includes a couple of brief shots of a mysterious watch-looking device that sports a square face with rounded edges.
The watch appears at the 35-second and 43-second marks of the video. The first shot shows the actual device sitting on a designer’s desk, and the second is of a render of the watch on the designer’s computer screen.
Is the product shown in HTC’s video its Android Wear smartwatch? That’s still a mystery for now, especially since we can’t really glean any software details about the unit from these quick peeks. The device in the video certainly resembles the “faithful reproduction” that leaked last week, though, sporting a square face with rounded corners.
What do you think this device is? Is it indeed HTC’s Android Wear smartwatch that’s suffered the same early reveal as the Nexus 5? Or just some prototype that will never see the light of day?
