Mobile hotspot devices aren’t quite as big a deal as they used to be now that most smartphones and tablets have that same functionality built in without the need for an extra data plan. We still see a new dedicated hotspot pop up every now and then, though, and it looks like we may soon see one from Sprint.
The device you see above is said to be the ZTE MF97A, a mobile hotspot made by ZTE and coming soon to Sprint. The MF97A is powered by Android and has a built-in pico projector with HDMI out.
The MF97A is likely the Projector Hotspot that ZTE announced at CES earlier this year. If that is indeed the case, then this device is packing a 4-inch 800x480 display, a projector that can output images up to 120 inches in size, a 5000mAh battery and Android 4.2. We can also see in the MF97A’s status bar that it’s got support for Sprint Spark LTE connectivity.
The ZTE MF97A looks like a pretty interesting addition to the mobile hotspot world. Even if you’re not interested in its pico projector, the fact that it runs Android makes it unique and should make it easy to share content directly from the unit rather than having to go through your phone, tablet or computer.
