Earlier this year, HTC predicted that its new flagship One (M8) would help it earn a profit in the second quarter of 2014 after experiencing some rough earnings in previous quarters. Today HTC released its unaudited results for Q2 2014, and it looks like the company’s prediction was spot on.
HTC has announced that it earned a profit of NT$2.26 billion ($75.6 million USD) in the second quarter of 2014. That’s quite an improvement from Q1 2014, which saw HTC post a net loss of NT$1.88 billion ($62.9 million USD). HTC also posted an operating profit of NT$2.43 billion ($81.3 million USD) for the quarter.
While HTC’s profits can’t quite measure up to those earned by Apple and Samsung, any profit is a good profit for HTC, especially considering that in the Q1 2014 it lost almost as much as it earned in Q2. Now we just have to wait and see if HTC can keep this momentum up and continue to get the One (M8) into consumers’ pockets.
Do you think HTC can continue to earn a profit through the remainder of 2014? What do you think it has to do to achieve this goal?
