Google has teased both a Project Tango smartphone and tablet, giving us a glimpse at devices that use an advanced processor technology and several sensor to gather details about their surroundings and create a 3D map based on that info. So far these Project Tango devices have only been made available to developers, but it looks like a consumer version is coming sooner than most folks likely expected.

Google announced today that it’s partnering with LG to create a Project Tango device intended for use by the public. It’s not known if this is a smartphone , tablet or something else entirely, but Google did say that the device will launch sometime in 2015.

Project Tango is a pretty cool, ambitious project that can use sensors for all kinds of unique applications. Google had never said before when we would see a Project Tango device made available to the public, but now we know that such a product is only a year out. That gives developers plenty of time to create applications using the device, and when Tango is made available to everyone, I’m sure that we’ll see even more folks snag a unit and create apps.
