The OnePlus One hasn’t exactly been the easiest smartphone to purchase: the initial batch of units went to Smash the Past contest winners, and any other interested consumers have had to hope to receive an invitation to buy one. Now it looks like the OnePlus One is getting even more difficult to come by, at least temporarily.
CyangoenMod’s Abhisek Devkota has announced on Reddit that, due to some recently-discovered issues with the OpenSSL software tool, the OnePlus One will be hit with a slight delay. The CyanogenMod team decided to include the fix for the OpenSSL bugs in the factory launch of the OnePlus One, and that new software needs to be tested and certified. This means that units are going to be shipped out a tad later than previously anticipated.
Delays are never a good thing, especially when they involve hard to come by products like the OnePlus One. OnePlus’s decision to push shipments back a bit in order to include a critical security patch seems like the smart thing to do, though. This way, it can ensure that none of its customers are affected by the bug, which is a risk that it’d take if it just shipped the units and planned an over the air update instead.
