Moto X 64GB model tipped by Motorola's Moto Maker website, internal Sprint document

Motorola has said that the follow-up to the Moto X, rumored to be known as the Moto X+1, will make its official debut in the late summer. It looks like the company may not be completely done with the Moto X quite yet, though, as it’s been revealed that Motorola may be prepping a 64GB version of its current flagship.

Russian site Mobiltelefon.ru recently discovered references to a 64GB option in the source code of the Moto Maker website. As you can see in the screenshot at the top of this post, the 64GB selection is listed with a price of “100,” suggesting that it would be an extra $100 over the base 16GB model Moto X.

In addition to this leak, the folks over at Android Police have gotten hold of internal Sprint documents that also mention the 64GB Moto X. Both a list of important dates and a full-on calendar list the 64GB Moto X as being available on Friday, May 23. Of course, that date came and went without any official announcement of a 64GB Moto X.

So what’s going on here? A 64GB Moto X could be a nice way for Motorola to spark some additional interest in the Moto X as its time as the company’s flagship draws to a close. We see mobile firms do this all the time, though they usually do it with new colors rather than additional storage options.

As for it’s release date, well, that’s still very much up in the air. Obviously the device didn’t launch on May 23 like Sprint had expected, but it’s not clear if that’s because the phone was delayed, if these Sprint documents are outdated or if some other unknown factor prevented the 64GB Moto X from launching last week. For now we’ll just have to wait and see how this situation plays out, but if you’ve been hoping that a 64GB option would be one of the customization choices added to Moto Maker, you may soon get your wish.
