Looks like the rumors were true. T-Mobile today announced that its partnering with Spanish broadcast network Univision to launch a new wireless service targeted at Hispanic Americans.
Dubbed “Univision Mobile,” the service runs on T-Mobile’s network and offers Univision Rewards as well as content, apps and events aimed specifically cat Hispanic Americans. Univision Mobile will launch on May 19 and will be available at 1,800 Walmart stores across the country as well as 6,000 independent dealers.
Univision Mobile offers an unlimited talk and text plan for $30 per month as well as unlimited talk, text and data plans that start at $45 per month. The $45 per month plan includes 2.5GB of high-speed 3G data, and there’s also a $55 plan that offers unlimited talk, text and web and 2.5GB of high-speed 4G data.
All of Univision Mobile’s plans include unlimited international texting from the U.S. to “select Latin American countries” and more than 200 other locales, as well as 100 minutes to be used for calls to mobiles or landlines in 8 Latin American countries.
Univision Mobile also offers two $10 per month add-ons: a Mas Mexico Connect plan with 1000 minutes to Mexican mobile numbers and unlimited calls to Mexico landlines, as well as an Unlimited International Talk plan that offers unlimited landline calls to 70 countries.
The new service offers Univision Rewards such as ringtones, sneak previews of Univision shows and chances to attend Univision events and meet the network’s personalities. Finally, the special Univision Mobile Portal gives smartphone users quick access to news, sports, entertainment and Univision apps.
According to research, there are nearly 56 million Hispanic Americans in the U.S., and nearly 50 percent of Latinos intend to buy a new smartphone within the next 6 months. Taking all of that data into consideration, this new Univision Mobile service could be a good way to attract more Hispanic Americans to hop onto T-Mobile’s network thanks to targeted content like Univision Rewards and all of the goodies in the Univision Portal.
