Sprint today announced a new add-on for its Framily Plans that allows customers to call and text people in several countries around the globe.
Dubbed the International Connect: Call & Text Plan, this addition is priced at $15 per month. Once you’re enrolled, you can use your voice plan minutes to call 65 international locales, including Canada and Mexico, at no additional charge. The add-on also gives customers unlimited texting from the U.S. to more than 180 countries.
There’s a bit of fine print with the International Connect: Call & Text Plan that’s worth taking note of. Sprint says that the customers will receive zero cents per minute calls to landlines in 65 countries and mobile phones in 35 countries, as well as unlimited texts to more than 180 countries. However, calls to mobile phones in 30 countries and any calls to countries outside of the included 65 will result in “low” per-minute rates.
Sprint also notes that it’s got a $5 International Long Distance Premier add-on for subscribers with minimal international calling needs. This plan includes calling to landlines in Canada and Mexico for $0.01 per minute, while calls to mobiles in those countries will cost $0.01 and $0.04 per minute, respectively. Calling to other countries includes “significantly lower rates,” like $0.08 and $0.13 per minute to Guatemalan landlines and mobiles.
Obviously not everyone will need these international calling add-ons, but for those that do occasionally engage in overseas conversations, the new plans may be worth checking out. Plus, because the International Connect: Call & Text Plan requires a compatible Framily Plan, it could help get more Sprint-ers onto Big Yellow’s new family offering.
