Google’s stable of applications is growing today on both Android and iOS with the introduction of dedicated Docs and Sheets apps.
Google today announced standalone Docs and Sheet apps for Android and iOS, which the company says will make it easier for users to find, create and edit documents while on the go. Opening the apps will bring up the most recent file, and each one also includes offline support. Google says that a standalone Slides app is “coming soon.”
Microsoft introduced Office Mobile apps for Android and iOS last year, and now it looks like fans of Google’s office software have their own apps for editing docs on their phones. Interestingly, Google has decided to separate its apps out into standalone versions while Microsoft grouped them all together into a single app, a decision that could be viewed by some as an annoyance and a space-saver by others.
Overall these new Google Docs and Sheets apps look pretty nice, and they ought to make mobile document creation and editing much easier than it was before.
