It’s finally here, Windows Phone fans! After months of leaks, rumors and more, the Windows Phone 8.1 update is now available to download.
Windows Phone head Joe Belfiore has announced on Twitter that Windows Phone 8.1 is ready for download using the Preview for Developers app. In order to download the update, you’ll need to register as a Windows Phone developer, which can be done for free through the Windows Phone App Studio. Then you can download the Preview for Developers app from the Windows Phone Store and gain early access to Windows Phone 8.1.
Despite the fact that it’s just a x.1 version jump from Windows Phone 8, the new WP8.1 update is possibly the biggest update yet for Microsoft’s mobile platform. Included is the Cortana personal assistant, Action Center notification panel, lock screen themes and a number of other large and small improvements. Best of all is that the Windows Phone 8.1 update can be installed on any Windows Phone 8 device.
If you’re rocking some Windows Phone 8 hardware and have the Preview for Developers app install, go ahead and dive into Settings > Phone update > Check for updates now! Once you get Windows Phone 8.1 installed, be sure to share your first impressions with us in the comments section!
