The BlackBerry Q20 is a throwback to the BlackBerry 7 phones of old, featuring a trackpad, physical keyboard and a set of Menu, Back, Send and End buttons. Those features led many folks to give the BlackBerry 10-powered Q20 the nickname “BlackBerry Classic.” Apparently BlackBerry really liked that moniker, because today it announced that that’s now the Q20’s official name.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen today revealed that the BlackBerry Q20 will now be known as the BlackBerry Classic. The device is slated to launch in the second half of 2014.
In its past couple of earnings announcements, BlackBerry says that its older BlackBerry 7 phones have been outselling its newer BlackBerry 10 hardware. The Classic is BlackBerry’s attempt to get lovers of its BB7 products to move to BB10, sporting features like a trackpad and navigation buttons like the old BlackBerry Bold products (shown above). The BlackBerry Classic also includes a 3.5-inch touchscreen, a large battery and a body made with “premium materials.”
