Samsung has a lot of unique apps, including S Health, Air View, S Note and many more. One of the apps that's been around the longest, though, is its ChatON messaging service. Today Samsung announced a major upgrade to ChatON that brings with it the ability to recall sent messages and several other big features.
The latest update to ChatON, which brings it up to version 3.5, includes a "Recall" feature that allows users to delete messages sent in one-on-one chats, even if the message has already been read by the other person. Users can simply tap and hold on the message and then hit the Recall button and POOF! The message will then be gone.
Another major new feature in version 3.5 of ChatON is support for sharing files up to 1GB in size. This means that users can now send even bigger files and higher-quality videos.
But wait, there's more! Samsung has also added the ability for ChatON users to share their location with their buddies using Glympse, which is the same service that BlackBerry recently added to BBM. This feature enables users to share their location for a set period of time as well as their route and ETA.
Rounding out ChatON v3.5's feature set is an boost in the group chat size limit to 1,001 users, SMS/MMS message integration that will group together text and ChatON messages from the same sender and new translation features for Arabic, Turkish, Farsi and Hindi.
Overall this looks like a pretty nice update for ChatON. The addition of Recall means that you can delete messages that you accidentally send to the wrong person, and while it's difficult to image being in a chat room with 1,000 people and being able to comprehend what's going on, it's nice to at least have that option. And hey, support for sending large files is always welcome.
The new version of ChatON appears to still be in the process of rolling out across the various app stores. If you'd like to check out the new version of the app for yourself, you can find the links to the Android, BlackBerry, iOS and Windows Phone versions below.
