Last month, Google revealed that its annual Google I/O developer conference would be held on June 25-26 and that it would share details on how to register for the event in March. Well, we're now in March, and Google today released the registration information just like it said that it would.
Google I/O 2014 registration will take place from 5:00 a.m. PDT on April 8 through 5:00 p.m. PDT on April 10. During that time, anyone can apply for a ticket to attend Google I/O. Once registration closes on April 10, Google will randomly select some lucky applicants who will get the chance to see the sights and sounds of I/O in person. Tickets will be priced at $900 for a general admission pass or $300 for an academic admission ticket.
It's worth noting that anyone not lucky enough to be selected to attend Google I/O won't have miss out on all of the developer fun. Google will be livestreaming many of the keynotes and other sessions on its dedicated I/O website, and its says that YouTube recordings of all of the sessions will be available after the show. There will also be I/O Extended events held in other locales while the conference is going on.
In previous years, Google has sold tickets to I/O on a first come, first served basis. That resulted in a mad scramble for tickets as soon as registration opened each year and a sell out shortly thereafter. With this new registration system, the 3-day registration system means that everyone will be on a level playing field and that anyone that wants to attend Google I/O will have the same chance as everyone else. That may be a bummer for some folks, but it's certainly a lot more fair. So mark your calendars and start saving your pennies, Android fans, because Google I/O is almost here.
