Google said to have acquired Green Throttle Games to further set-top box plans

Time to add another name to the list of companies acquired by Google.

According to a report from PandoDaily, Google recently snapped up Green Throttle Gaming, the company behind an Android gaming controller called "Atlas" that worked over Bluetooth. The company actually yanked its Android app from Google Play last year, but the controller itself is still available for purchase, even though it doesn't do much good without the corresponding app. 

A Google spokesperson is said to have confirmed the deal, which will see some of Green Throttle's employees and two of its founders joining Google. The third founder, Charles Huang, has apparently decided to keep his rights to the Green Throttle business.

Google hasn't revealed many other details of its acquisition, but sources claim that El Goog snapped up Green Throttle in order to help improve a Bluetooth controller that would be used to play games on a Google set-top box. Rumors from late last year claimed that Google is in the process of creating an Android-powered box that will play video games, support video streaming services like Netflix and be controlled by a touchpad remote. While unconfirmed, it's easy to imagine that Google saw a Green Throttle parts and labor acquisition  as a nice way to beef up the functionality of its touchpad remote.
