Heads up, iOS users! Apple just released iOS 7.1 after spending the past several months beta testing the update with its registered developers.

iOS 7.1 is the first major update that Apple has made to its mobile OS since releasing iOS 7 late last year. The bump up to iOS 7.1 brings with it several new features and improvements, including support for the recently-introduced CarPlay functionality, the ability to manually control when Siri listens to you, improved TouchID fingerprint recognition and general user interface improvements.

The update to iOS 7.1 is available to the iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and later and the fifth-generation iPod touch. It can be snagged as an over the air update by grabbing your iDevice and heading into Settings > General > Software Update or by plugging your iOS hardware into your computer and loading up iTunes.

While the jump from iOS 7.0.6 to iOS 7.1 may not seem like a big deal when you're just looking at the version numbers, this new update actually looks like it'll be a major deal for iOS users. Not only will iPhone 5s owners enjoy improved TouchID recognition and CarPlay functionality, but Apple is also showing love to owners of the aging iPhone 4 with some performance improvements. Apple also says that it's included a fix for the Home screen crash bug that's been plaguing many users, so hopefully iOS folk can finally put that issue behind them.
