Use Google's official Gmail app for iOS? If so, you'll want to jump into the App Store and check for updates as soon as possible, because Google just announced that version 3.0 of the Gmail app is rolling out today.
The list of changes found in Gmail for iOS v3.0 isn't huge, but the improvements that are in there are pretty big. First up is support for background app refresh, which enables Gmail to prefetch your messages and have them ready for reading when the app is opened. This feature requires iOS 7 and that at least one notification type be turned on.
The other new feature of today's Gmail for iOS update is a simplified sign-in. Google explains that after signing into one of its apps on iOS, you'll automatically be signed in to any others that you've got installed, eliminating the need to enter your password over and over and over and over. The same thing works for signing out of Google's apps as well.
Like I said before, the changelog for today's Gmail for iOS update isn't big, but the features that are in there are biggies. Background app refresh support means that Gmailers no longer need to sit and wait for their phone to check for new mail when they open up the app, and the simplified sign-in process means that users with multiple Google apps on their iOS devices won't need to enter their password into each one separately.
