Looks like Sprint's Galaxy Note 3 isn't the only Samsung device that's enjoying a KitKat treat today.
U.S. Cellular has revealed on its official Android downloads page that KitKat is now rolling out to both its Samsung Galaxy S 4 and its Galaxy Note 3. The Android 4.4.2 update available both as an over the air download and through Samsung Kies, the latter of which requires that the user plug his or her device into a computer and install the update using Samsung's computer software. After installing the update, the Galaxy S 4 will be on baseband version R970TYUFNAE, while the Galaxy Note 3 will be on N900R4TYUCNAB.
Moving to countries outside of the U.S., a new report from SamMobile says that Samsung has started pushing Android 4.4.2 to the international GT-I9500 variant of the Galaxy S 4. The update is starting out in Russia and is expected to make its way to other countries in the coming days and weeks. Once installed, I9500 owners can expect to find goodies like white status bar icons, a lock screen camera app shortcut, lock screen album art and music controls, the ability to set either Messaging or Hangouts as the default SMS app and some general performance improvements.
Samsung may be trailing HTC and Motorola in rolling KitKat out to its flagship hardware, but the good news is that Sammy recently announced the start of its Android 4.4.2 rollout, with many different Galaxy phones and tablets expected to receive the update in the coming months.
The updates that are going out today are especially notable because Sprint and U.S. Cellular have beaten most other U.S. carriers in the race to update Samsung's Galaxy S 4 and Note 3. The CDMA carriers in the U.S. have been known to be somewhat slow when it comes to pushing out updates in the past, so it's great to see Sprint and USCC getting their Galaxy S 4 and Note 3 KitKat updates out so quickly.
