Samsung announced earlier this month that it will hold its Unpacked 2014 Episode 1 event on Feb. 24, the first day of Barcelona. The company hasn't said exactly what it plans to show at the event, but it did leave a little teaser in its invitation in the form of a superscript "5" next to the word "Unpacked." Today Samsung's teasing continues with some more "to the power of 5" references.
A new invitation to the Unpacked 2014 Episode 1 event has been posted to Samsung's official blog, and this time around the Korean company has included 9 different app icons, each with its own title and superscript 5. The list of icons includes Speed, Outdoor, Curiosity, Fun, Social, Style, Privacy, Fitness and Life, and several of them have symbols that are already used for Samsung app icons such as Knox and S Health.
Recent leaks have suggested that Samsung is testing out a refreshed, flattened version of its custom TouchWiz user interface. The icons shown in today's Unpacked update are definitely flatter than what Samsung is currently using, and with the superscript 5 included in all of the symbol titles, it's possible that this new invitation is teasing Samsung's updated UI. Plus, the Galaxy S5 is expected to make its debut at this upcoming Unpacked event, and as I've said before, the launch of a new flagship smartphone seems as good a time as any to introduce a revamped UI as well.
What do you think of the rounded icons teased by Samsung today? Do you think that you'd like them if an entire set were used on the Galaxy S5?
