BLU Products has been pretty busy over the past few months, announcing one new handset in November, three new phones in December and then another five phones and a tablet in January. Today the company kept its new-phones-every-month trend alive by announcing the BLU Life Pure mini.
As its name suggests, the BLU Life Pure mini is a shrunken version of the BLU Life Pure. The Life Pure mini features a 4.5-inch 720p IPS display, down from the 5-inch 1080p panel found on the Life Pure, as well as the same 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor that powers its bigger sibling. Also packed inside the Life Pure mini's 8.9mm-thick body is 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and a 3,000mAh battery. Rounding out the Life Pure mini's spec list is an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter.
BLU also touts the Life Pure mini's sound playback capabilities as one of the device's tentpole features. The handset features advanced DTS surround audio tech, which BLU says provides high quality music playback. The focus on sound doesn't stop there, though, as the Life Pure mini also includes dual mic noise cancellation and stereo recording support.
On the software side of things, the Life Pure mini comes preloaded with Android 4.2 running beneath a custom BLU user interface. The company describes its overlay as adding "pure simplicity of use and beauty." Included with BLU's custom UI are software features such as Smart Dial, Gesture Answer and Picture Air Browse that utilize various gestures and motion sensors.
BLU says that the Life Pure mini is currently in production and on its way to dealers and online retailers in the U.S. and Latin America. The device includes support for 42Mbps HSPA+ on either 850/1900 or 850/2100 bands and will be sold in Matte Black and Polished White color options for $249 unlocked.
Overall the Life Pure mini looks like a serviceable option for folks that are on the hunt for a small-ish Android smartphone on the cheap. The inclusion of Android 4.2 is kind of a bummer, but BLU does say that future software updates will be made available over the air, so hopefully the company is planning to bump the Life Pure mini up to a newer version of Google's mobile OS in the near future.
