Geeksphone has steadily been revealing more and more details of its OS-switching Revolution phone in recent months. First we learned about its support for both Android and Mozilla's Boot2Gecko software, then along came some spec details and then the company confirmed that the Revolution that was the subject of a pair of leaked renders. Today the steam of Revolution information continues with the emergence of some official product images.
Geeksphone has made over the home page of its official website, focusing the entire thing on the Revolution and its features. We're treated to images of the Revolution's face, which features what looks to be a trio of capacitive buttons beneath its 4.7-inch display, as well as its side and rear. The backside of the phone is home to an 8-megapixel camera with flash, loudspeaker and some Geeksphone and Intel branding. The Revolution features a two-tone design with a black front and white rear.
The website also includes a complete rundown of the Revolution's spec list that fills in a few of the holes left from Geeksphone's previous spec announcement. Along with the aforementioned 4.7-inch IPS 960x540 display and 8-megapixel camera, the Geeksphone Revolution features a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot, 2-megapixel front camera and a 2000mAh battery. The phone's wireless connectivity includes 21Mbps HSPA+ support on the 850/900/1900/2100MHz airwaves.
Of course, the tentpole feature of the Revolution is its ability to run multiple operating systems that Geeksphone calls its "MultiOS technology." The Revolution comes with Android in tow but can also run Boot2Gecko by Mozilla, which is a version of Firefox OS, as well as any other "community-support flavor of an OS." Geeksphone promises that it'll keep users on up-to-date software using a one-click over the air service.
Two details that Geeksphone are still keeping under wraps are the Revolution's price and precise launch date, though the company has said that the device should arrive sometime in the first quarter of 2014. While most of the Revolution's spec sheet are of the mid-range variety, the device's ability to run Android, Boot2Gecko or any other community-supported OS helps it to stand out in an increasingly-growing sea of smartphone hardware.
I'm looking forward to seeing exactly how the Revolution's OS-switching process works and how easy it is to hop between Android, Boot2Gecko and other OSes, so here's to hoping that we aren't waiting until the end of Q1 2014 for the Revolution to hit the market. If you'd like to receive an alert when the Revolution's pre-sale process kicks off, you can mosey on over to Geeksphone's website and share your email address with the company. Or, you know, just stay tuned to PhoneDog.
