Been experiencing random software crashes lately on your iOS 7-powered iPhone? You're not along, as a bug referred to as the "white/black screen of death" has been plaguing many iOS 7 users, causing the device to reboot out of nowhere. The good news is that Apple is aware of the issue and has a fix ready to go.
In a statement sent to Mashable, Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller confirmed the software issue and said that it would be addressed in an impending update. "We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash," Muller explained. Unfortunately, she didn't say exactly when this update will be pushed out to users.
iOS 7 was rolled out to users in September 2013, bringing with it the biggest redesign of Apple's mobile software to date as well as a number of new features, including Control Center and iTunes Radio. Apparently this soft reset bug also made the cut, leading many users to experience random reboots while they're going about their normal business.
While Apple isn't saying much about the update that this fix is a part of, we do know that the company has been busy beta testing an update to iOS 7.1, which is currently on its fourth revision. It's not clear if the solution to this reboot bug will be rolled into the iOS 7.1 update or pushed out earlier, but because it can be quite a pain to endure a software reset while you're in the middle of doing something on your phone, hopefully Apple gets this patch out as quickly as possible.
