We're less than a week into 2014 and we've already got our first Google acquisition post of the year. Bitspin, maker of the popular Android app Timely, announced today that it's joining up with Google. Details of the deal are light right now, but Bitspin says that it plans to continue "building great products that are delightful to use." The company adds that its alarm clock app Timely will continue to work as intended. Interestingly, it appears that the themes and challenges that Timely used to offer as in-app purchases are now available to all users for free.
While many folks simply rely on their device's built-in clock app for their alarm needs, Timely expands upon the basic apps found on most devices and looks pretty good while doing it. The app offers features like Smart Rise, which plays soft music 30 minutes before an alarm is set to go off to more gently wake the user from sleep, as well as challenges that help the user to get up by requiring more effort than a simple tap to turn off the alarm. Timely also features syncing capabilities that will keep all of a user's alarms synchronized across all of his or her devices.
