Moto X no contract price permanently reduced to $399 [UPDATED]

Motorola made waves late last year when it offered the Moto X for just $349 without a contract for the holidays and then again as part of a Today Show promotion. Consumers had to request a code from Motorola's site in order to take advantage of the discounted pricing, and as you might expect when a manufacturer offers a deep discount on its flagship smartphone, the codes went fast. Today Motorola revealed that it's discounting the Moto X again, but the one difference with this latest price cut is that it's a permanent change.

Motorola just announced that its reducing the no contract price of the Moto X to $399 from today forward. The newly-reduced price applies to units customized through Moto Maker and is also available for every U.S. carrier. Even the recently-launched bamboo-backed Moto X is getting its price cut, though the final cost of that unit is actually $499 due to the $100 premium for the wooden back.

The Moto X's new off-contract price may not be quite as low as it was during Motorola's two $150 discount promos last year, but it's still a pretty awesome deal for what many consider to be one of the best Android phones available right now. The best part is that the new $399 pricing applies to the unlocked GSM version of the Moto X as well as all of the U.S. carrier-specific models, meaning that anyone can treat themselves to a shiny new Moto X at its reduced pricing. UPDATE: Motorola has also reduced the prices of the 32GB Moto X as well as both the GSM and Verizon flavors of the Moto X Developer Edition. All three devices are now available for $449.99.
